Gaming is not just for the young!
Residents of Canal View – Houghton County are the first in the Upper Peninsula to benefit from the use of the award-winning Mobii Interactive Sensory Table.
Mobii is a portable, motion activated system which allows residents to engage with projected images or games. Personal videos or photos can also be uploaded to create a personalized activity. Residents interact with the games either with a swipe, touch, or poke of the images displayed on the projection in return, the images “react” to the movement the resident made. Residents are able to use Mobii whether it is for individual use on a bedside table or moved to a community room for larger groups to use together where games can be displayed either on the floor or a large table.
Alisha Davis, Life Enrichment Director shared, “The Mobii system has over 150 games, players push items around on the interactive table, or simply watch the amazing scenes. Favorite features so far are the music, nature sounds, and puzzles. When they finish a puzzle, it comes to life!” The activities on Mobii are designed to engage the user in movement, stretching, and challenged thinking. “Mobii is bringing our residents together to laugh, socialize, and enjoy meaningful activities on a whole new level. It has been amazing to introduce them to a piece of technology like this and see them enjoy it.”
In addition, Mobii may be useful for those residents who may not be motivated by more traditional approaches when it comes to Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Speech Therapy. Mobii may provide alternative methods to target skills such as hand-eye coordination, range of motion, attention, and memory. Director of Rehab, Monica Maki stated, “Mobii is an exciting piece of equipment because it challenges the stereotype that this type of technology is only reserved for the tech-savvy or youthful. It has been really incredible to see residents of all age levels find an activity on Mobii that they enjoy.”
“The addition of such an innovative piece of equipment to our Canal View residents is huge. We have seen, in a very short period of time that our residents who may have held back in participating in activities, become engaged and enthusiastic when using Mobii.” expressed Adam Laplander, Canal View – Houghton County Administrator.
Gaming is definitely not just for the young. Canal View residents are proving that every day with the help of Mobii.
